ISRO Technician Electrician Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2025: Download PDF Details

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has released the ISRO Technician Electrician syllabus and exam pattern 2025 at the official website. Candidates should become acquainted with the ISRO Technician Fitter Syllabus & Exam Pattern in order to understand the marking structure and topics covered. The selection process will include a screening test, written exam, and skill test. 

The exam is an objective type test, according to the ISRO Technician B Electrician Exam Pattern. Each paper contains 80 multiple-choice questions.  To be eligible for the position of ISRO Technician B Electrician, candidates must obtain the minimum ISRO Technician B cut-off marks.

🧑‍🔧 ISRO Technician-B Exam Pattern (Written Test)

📌 Stage 1: Written Test

  • Type of Test: Objective-Type / Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) 
  • Number of Questions: 80 questions 
  • Duration: 90 minutes (1.5 hours) 
  • Marks:
    • +1 mark for each correct answer 
    Negative marking: 0.33 marks deducted for each wrong answer
  • Total Marks: 80 marks 
  • Language: Usually in English+ Hindi (confirm in official notification).

📌 Qualifying Criteria (Example from VSSC Notification):

  • UR & EWS: Minimum 32 out of 80 marks
  • Other reserved categories: Lower minimum qualifying marks (e.g., 24/80) depending on reservation rules. 

🛠️ Stage 2: Skill / Trade Test

  • After qualifying the written exam, candidates are called for a skill/trade test specific to their trade (e.g., Fitter, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, etc.). 
  • Purpose: Assess hands-on and practical abilities related to the specific Technician-B trade. 
  • Marks: Skill test may be qualifying in nature (scores may not count toward final merit) — this varies by notification

TECHNICAL THEORY- 80 MARKS

Basic Electrical Concepts

  1.  Foundation and safety
  • Safety practices - safety rules, first aid, hazard identification and prevention, Factory and personal safety (PPES), response to emergency, safety signs fire and fire extinguishers.
  • Concept of standards and trade tools - understanding BIS/ISI standards, trade tool specifications.
  • Electrical code overview of electrical code - 2011.
  •  Allied trades - introduction to fitting, tools and related safety precautions, description and specification of various tools.

2. Wiring and circuits

  • Soldering and joints - techniques of soldering, various joints in electrical conductors.
  • Underground cables - description, types, joints and testing procedures, cable insulation and voltage grades

3. Electrical circuits - ohm’s law Kirchhoff’s laws and circuit problems, series, parallel circuits, and open/short circuits in series and parallel networks.

Resistance and resistor- laws of resistance, types of resistors, method of measurement of resistors such as ammeter - voltmeter method, Wheatstone bridge etc.

Magnet descriptions types, magnetic terms, magnetism, faradays laws of electromagnetic induction Lenz law and induced emf, inductors, electro magnetism terms, eddy current and hysteresis.

  • Capacitors - capacitor types and functions, grouping and uses.
  • Fundamental of AC and AC circuits - AC and DC , advantages of DC and AC systems, frequency, waveforms etc, RL, RC, RLC, series and parallel AC circuits.
  •  Poly - phase systems -star - delta connections and phase sequences, power and power factor, power and energy measurement.

4. Cells and Battery

  • Chemical effect of current and cells- explanations of anode and cathode, law of electrolysis,
    types of cell, advantage and disadvantage and their application, grouping of cell.
  • Battery - description, principle of operation and components, types, care and maintenance and testing, electroplating and cathodic.
  • 5. Wiring systems and Measuring Instruments
  • Electrical wiring - i.e. rules on electrical wiring, types of domestic and industrial wirings.
  • Wiring system and method, wiring accessories, planning, and load estimation.
  • Earthing- importance, methods, measurement of earth resistance and leakage circuit breaker.
  • 6. Illumination - law of illuminations, illuminations terms, types of illumination, calculations, lamps and fitting.
  • 7. Electrical measuring instruments- classification and usage of instruments, measurement of electrical parameters, errors and calibration.  Measurement and components
  • 8. Domestic equipment, descriptions - working principles of domestic appliances; neutral and earth concepts.
  • 9. Transformers - descriptions definitions, working principles, construction type, emf equation, transformation ration test losses efficiency, regulation, safety devices, parallel operation, connection of 3 phase transformers, auto transformation, CT&PT their description.
  • 10. Electronics components - construction and description - diode, transistor, SCR, DIAC, TRIAC and IGBT, oscilloscope working principles.
  • 11. Motor control - ac/dc drive applications; 3-phase motor speed control using vvvf/ac drive.
  •  12. Energy sources and transmission
    A. Energy sources - conventional and non-conventional sources; power generation by thermal, hydel, solar and wind.
    B. Transmission and distribution- networks, insulators, and conductor joining methods; safety precautions and ie rules for domestic service connections.
  • 13. Protection systems - types of relays, circuit breakers, and arc quenching.
  • 14. Electrical machines
    A. Ac and Dc generator and motor - construction, working principal, types applications. Characteristics, starter and speed control method.
  •  15. Winding
    - AC winding - terms, testing, winding material.
    - DC winding - terms, types, testing, winding material.
  • 16. Energy conservation and Management
  • Non-conventional energy source, Overview of energy management, need for energy conservation, Environmental Aspects.
  • 17. Utilization of Electrical Energy
    Laws of illumination and different terms associated with it, various types of electrical heating, electrical wiring and its estimation & coasting.
